VMware Acquires Leader in DB Clustering and Replication
On October 29th we received an email from Continuent, a company that we have been following for several years for its brilliant and very useful relational database clustering solutions, acquired by VMware.
VMware, in our opinion, succeeds with this acquisition to gain a great competitive advantage that is very important to recover the market against the big public cloud companies.
We met continuent many years ago when we were looking for a service that could compete with the MySQL Proxy, which was perpetually in alpha release.
Since then, continuint has come a long way, the solutions it is able to propose are really very important for HA, DR, ScaleUp, Balancing, Replication and Real-Time Conversion between different relational db environments.
Database-as-a-Service: Building a data service in physical or virtual environments
Multi-Master, Multi-Site: Great solutions for scaling with highly efficient real-time replication
Oracle Replication: Replicate data between Oracle and MySQL, in real-time.
Replication to Real-time Analytics and Big Data: Fast, real-time replication between RDBMS and NOSQL such as MongoDB, Hadoop, and Vertica.
Load Balancing – Increased throughput by automatically balancing across many replicas.
VMware will certainly be able to take advantage of these powerful features to offer new PaaS Public Cloud services.
